2016.04.29 - Further information on Inbound call issues

Dear all,

At 13.19:39 our monitoring detected issues reaching BT Wholesale over our private fibre interconnect between Telehouse East and Telehouse North.

The way our systems are designed are that calls will come in from BT Wholesale via this link first, and if our end is unreachable or we send failure messages back, BT Wholesale will re-route calls to not use that link and send calls to us over our transit providers NTT and Level3, i.e. over the Internet.

We have now had information from BT Wholesale stating that they suffered a switch failure in Telehouse North from 13:03 to 14:15. We connect to *two different* switches in that location, so we are asking for more details.

When we move over from this design to connecting directly in to the PSTN via SS7 links in Edinburgh and London, the risk of this ever happening again will be extremely unlikely.

In fact, using the design we have at the moment, this has never happened since we started with this years ago.

Once we have more information, I will pass it on.

Thanks,

Gavin.
