Cycling 170 miles over 2 days for Charity

08 August 2014 at 11:08am
Hi all, Those of you I've spoken to, at some point I will have mentioned the best boy in the world, my son Ben. He is 10 and has Cerebral Palsy. He can't walk or talk and uses a wheelchair but is amazing with technology so uses communication software on his iPad to tell us he wants Chocolate! Over the years he has had a lot of help from The Archie Foundation. This year I'm doing the Ride The North challenge which is a two day 170 mile cycling event riding 85 miles a day on the 29th and 30th August from Inverness to Aberdeen with all monies raised going to The Archie Foundation. If you think this is worth a donation (which it is!) please give generously on my JustGiving page :-) Training has involved Ben as much as possible as pulling Ben is like doing twice the ride time by myself :-) Ben and I off on our regular 2 hour ride Thanks, Gavin.

Important 084 / 087 number changes

14 May 2014 at 08:05am
Effective June 2014 you will need to have replaced many of your 084 and 087 (and where applicable 09) numbers alternatives in order to remain compliant with new laws. In October 2011 the EU passed The Consumer Rights Directive (CRD) with the aim of simplifying consumer rights in certain important areas. It became UK law in December 2013 and comes into force across the EU in June 2014.

As a result of this UK businesses cannot incur their existing customers (your customers which are classed as consumers only, it does not apply customers that are businesses) costs beyond a local rate call to contact them. There are some exceptions but essentially consumers calling them for support, service or billing must be able to do so without paying more than the local rate. This change is mandatory from Friday June 13th 2014.

In practice this means that 084 (including 0845) /087 and 09 numbers are prohibited and you should advertise an 0102 or 03 number, a mobile number or a freephone number for business-to-consumer business. For more background to this, including the list of exempted industries, please see the PhonePayPlus guidance

03 numbers represent a natural alternative where a geographic number (01/02) is not appropriate. SureVoIP do not charge a monthly rental for 03 numbers and have a wide choice of 03 Platinum Numbers

Naturally, geographic numbers can be allocated for the appropriate area and again, Platinum Numbers are available for instant purchase through our website. It is important to note that all 01 / 02 / 03 numbers should be similarly in-bundle and therefore there is no end-user disadvantage or gain if an 03 is chosen over a geographic, and vice-versa.

We cannot advise on your legal obligations but if you have any queries regarding alternative numbers, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Network migration date for SureVoIP services

21 February 2014 at 17:02pm
Hi all, After 4 months of testing we are ready to switch customers over to our own network. This will take place on Friday 28th February at 10pm until midnight. Services will be interrupted and intermittent during this time. If you are a SureVoIP Hosted VoIP customer, then you may need to restart your phones when you come in to the office on Monday, but most should be fine. Over the next week we advise those running on site phone systems or strict firewalls to adjust your firewall if you haven't already. Please add a new rule to allow traffic into your network from 185.8.92.0/27. For those of you that are not technical please forward this email to your IT department. SureVoIP Partners have already been advised of these changes. If you have any questions or custom requirements please email support@surevoip.co.uk You can follow our progress via our Service Status page and SureVoIP Status twitter account from 10pm on Friday 28th February onwards. Please note: the current network will still continue to work for 30 days from the 28th February and we'll keep an eye on those that have hardcoded any of the current IP addresses. Thanks, Gavin.

Dear all, Some of you will already know that currently SureVoIP rents servers in London and owns and co-locates some in Edinburgh. This is all about to change. Those of you that follow SureVoIP on Twitter and read the SureVoIP Blog or have chatted to me personally at GraniteExpo 2013 last month will already know all about this. As of now we are an independent ISP, but more specifically an Internet Telephony Service Provider in our own right. We made our first test VoIP call last week across are new network. Here are the details and what you can expect this to bring to our SureVoIP Partners, your customer and our direct customers. This has been fully self-funded (and fully paid for outright) via your hard work which is now almost fully deployed:

  • Interconnect/peering with current ISP partners
  • Interconnecting with BT Wholesale (via physical fibres) and existing carriers
  • All on-net access meaning VoIP calls from our internet products do not cross the public internet
  • Those of you that wish to host VoIP equipment with us and be physically connected, now can be

  • New dual services using SRV records and/or two IP addresses, no more Primary and Secondary
  • Much more contracted control with less hops (try pinging/traceroute to 185.8.92.61-62 versus sip.surevoip.co.uk)
  • Connected to the core of the UK internet
  • Microsoft Lync compatible SIP trunks using new security platform (including Office365 Enterprise)

  • Partner access monitoring platform to monitor your customers IP networks and services
as well as all of above the following things are ongoing: That's a lot to digest and I'm sure you have tons of questions! We'll keep you updated on the migration plans and new IP addresses too. Lastly, don't forget our opening hours for the Christmas period. Thanks, Gavin.

24/7 emergency customer support and Christmas holidays 2013

02 December 2013 at 12:12pm
The Suretec/SureVoIP office will be closed for normal business on Monday 23rd December and re-open on the Monday 6th January 2014. If you have an emergency support requirement you can use our 24/7 emergency customer support telephone number 01224 245012. SureVoIP partners can call the on call support engineers directly. Please note: this is for extreme emergencies regarding loss of service, not sales. When you call this number you will be asked for your SureVoIP telephone number and/or account number by a helpdesk agent. Process: The helpdesk will call our internal test number to check all inbound and outbound systems. If there are no problems detected you will be advised to restart your equipment and verify your internet connection. If you are still experiencing a problem and require immediate assistance which can not wait until normal business hours, a call will be placed to our on call support engineers. We will already be alerted of any serious problems on our core systems due to our automated 24/7 monitoring and will post information about the problem on our Service Status page and SureVoIP Twitter Service Status feed, so please check these first. Thanks and enjoy the holidays!

Scottish VoIP gets a boost - LINX and Scottish Government announce the launch of new Internet Exchange for Scotland

28 October 2013 at 11:10am
SureVoIP are very excited to share the news about IXScotland being launched. It will mean the Scottish based internet traffic stays in Scotland, which is great news for Scottish customers using Voice Over IP (VoIP): (28/10/2013) - LINX is pleased to announce the launch of a brand new Internet Exchange for Scotland, which is now fully installed and will be passing its first Internet traffic over the next few days. The exchange called IXScotland will be LINX's first dedicated Internet Exchange (IXP) for the region. Hosted at Pulsant’s South Gyle data centre in Edinburgh (formerly Scolocate), IXScotland is built using the hardware from Extreme's Summit X460 Series. The new IXP will allow ISPs and content providers with customers in Scotland to "keep local traffic local" by reducing the need to exchange traffic in London, resulting in reduced latency and faster connectivity for Scottish networks and Internet users. Today's launch is the culmination of months of consultation with the local network community and the Scottish Government. The IXP launched with many networks connected from the start and with more to follow. The launch was welcomed by the Scottish Government with the Cabinet Secretary, John Swinney, who visited IXScotland just before launch and said: “We are delighted to welcome the establishment of a dedicated Internet Exchange Point for Scotland which will speed up Internet access for businesses and individuals. I want to recognise the key contribution of LINX, who have worked with the industry and Scottish Government to make this happen.”. John Souter, CEO of LINX, said: "IXScotland is a real step forward for the Internet community in Scotland and the UK as a whole. The exchange will allow networks to stop 'tromboning' traffic to London and back again, and will help increase resilience by creating a new centre for interconnection in the UK.” LINX members can connect to any of our IXPs without additional membership fees. To help grow the exchange and build a critical mass of connected networks, all available port speeds, from 100M to 10G, will be free at launch until 2015. END Original post - https://www.linx.net/publicity/2013releases/pr2013-02.html SureVoIP is a member of LINX and will be joining IXScotland once it's new core network is live which will enable it to provide VoIP optimised internet connectivity. SureVoIP operates under AS199659.
